Zulaikha Ahmad

Kuala Lumpur · Kedai Jahit owner

I attended the Numbers Workshop back in April. I had been running my tailoring shop for four years and honestly had no real idea how to read what I was earning versus what was going out. The stock-sheet layout made sense to me the same day. I am still using the template every week.

Tan Chee Keong

Petaling Jaya · Hardware shop

Did the six-week Bookkeeping programme in March and April. The workbook helped me build a monthly review habit I had been putting off for years. The peer circles were useful — talking through numbers with other owners at similar stages felt less intimidating than I expected. Timing was fine, though I had to leave early one session due to a supplier delivery.

Norhafizah Ismail

Shah Alam · Home catering business

The Finance Foundations Course took me three months but it was worth it. I now understand how my cash actually flows through my catering business across a month — which orders cost me the most to fulfill and which ones leave me with actual margin. The toolkit is sitting on my desk and I refer to it regularly.

Rajendran Subramaniam

Cheras · Auto parts trading

The Numbers Workshop was straightforward. I came in thinking I already understood the basics, and mostly I did — but the margin section clarified something I had been calculating incorrectly for years. Good to have it confirmed. Sessions run on time, which I appreciated.

Ampang · Online clothing retail

I did the Bookkeeping Basics Programme and I think the biggest thing I got out of it was the monthly review habit. I had never set aside one hour at the end of the month to look at my numbers in a structured way. Six weeks in and it is now a routine. The workbook made it easy to keep consistent.

Lee Hwai Ling

Subang Jaya · Florist

The Finance Foundations Course was a big commitment but I knew my records needed serious attention. By the end of month two I had identified two types of orders that were consistently eating my margins — something I had suspected but could not quantify before. The clinics were helpful for working through the parts that did not click immediately.

Three owner journeys in detail

MH

Mohd Hafiz bin Rozali

Kedai Runcit owner · Gombak

CHALLENGE

Running a neighbourhood grocery for six years, Hafiz had no record-keeping system beyond a rough daily cash count. He could not tell whether his business was generating a healthy margin or slowly losing ground.

PROGRAMME

Completed the Numbers Workshop, then joined the Bookkeeping Basics Programme the following month. Used the stock-sheet template from day one of the workshop.

OUTCOME

By the third week of the Bookkeeping programme he had his first clear monthly summary. Identified that one category of stock (beverages) was generating about 40% of his margin despite being 20% of shelf space.

"I now do my monthly review on the last Friday of every month. It takes about an hour. I would not have thought that was possible before."
SK

Siti Khadijah binti Zainal

Home-based baking · Klang

CHALLENGE

Siti's baking business had grown from a part-time side income to her main livelihood, but her records were in three different notebooks. She had no clear picture of monthly income versus costs.

PROGRAMME

Enrolled directly in the Finance Foundations Course. Three months, twelve sessions, completed in full. Used the clinic sessions for help with cash-flow planning specific to seasonal orders.

OUTCOME

After completing the course she consolidated her records into one system using the toolkit templates. She now prepares a simple cash-flow estimate before taking on large festival orders to check whether the cash timing works out.

"The cash-flow section was the part that changed things most for me. I was always confused about why I would have a good sales month but still feel short of cash."
VN

Vijayakumar Nair

Cleaning services · Puchong

CHALLENGE

Vijay had two full-time staff and was taking on contracts regularly, but found it hard to tell which contract types were worth the time. His record-keeping was mostly invoices stored in a folder.

PROGRAMME

Completed the Bookkeeping Basics Programme. Used peer circles to discuss how to categorise different types of outgoings in a service business.

OUTCOME

By the end of the programme he had a workable monthly summary format adapted for a service business. He identified that residential one-off jobs had a notably higher margin per hour than regular commercial contracts.

"The peer circle format was unexpected. I did not expect to learn as much from the other owners as from the facilitator — but it worked out that way."
